Introduction
The HEV TCP was formed in 1993 to produce and disseminate balanced, objective information about advanced electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles. It is an international membership group collaborating under the International Energy Agency (IEA) framework. The main objective of HEV TCP Task 48 Battery Swapping is to investigate the influences of battery swapping employment on battery chemistry, grid infrastructure, environment, and business model, strengthen the global information exchange on battery swapping technology, help the formation of battery swapping ecosystem and traceability mechanism, and offer suggestions for policy makers and stakeholders. This task focuses on the research and communication on the technology, application, standard and business model of battery swapping, analyzing battery assets whole life cycle management and battery swapping technology evolution, and shining light on the above-mentioned arguments.
Aim of the workshop
The aim of the expert workshop is to analyse, assess and the progress and existing problems of global battery swapping in electric two and three wheelers, and promote the development of battery swapping in electric two and three wheelers.
Two and three wheelers are the first priority in moving to electric mobility. Scenario calculations using the UN Environment eMob calculator show that assuming a steep and global shift to 90% battery electric motorcycles sales by 2030 could result in CO2 emissions reductions of about 11 billion tons between now and 2050.
Battery swapping stations effectively address the challenges of long charging times, lack of charging stations, and safety hazards for electric two and three wheelers. With the rapid development of shared electric bicycles and takeaways, the scale of electric two and three wheeler users is expanding while generating a huge demand for battery swapping.
